Cougars Drop Opening Game Of World Series

Cougars Drop Opening Game Of World Series

ENID, OK. – The Frederick Community College Cougars squared off against the Lansing Stars on Saturday afternoon on Opening Day of the 2022 NJCAA DII Baseball World Series. Entering the matchup, the Cougars came into the tournament as the No. 4 seed and the Stars were awarded the No. 5 seed. The Stars would score in six of the nine innings to earn the 13-2 victory over the Cougars. FCC snaps their 18-game winning streak and sits at 42-6 on the season. Lansing improves to 44-9 on their season.

The Cougars tallied nine hits on the day. They had a number of scoring opportunities, but couldn't deliver that key hit in clutch situations. At one point late in the game the Cougars were 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Their biggest threat of the game came in the bottom of the 5th trailing just 2-1. Aidan Masters led the inning off with a single followed by a Justin Acal walk. However Lansing starting pitcher Grant Dittmer would shut the door by striking out the side.

Aidan Masters had a solid World Series debut. He went 4-for-4 on the day and continues to have a stellar freshman campaign. He continues to spray the baseball all over the field and is hitting .395 on the year. Spencer Rhoads chipped in with a pair of hits while teammate Justin Acal hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 7th inning. For Acal, it was his 10th homer on the season.

Dittmer turned in a solid performance on the mound for the Stars. He pitched seven innings and gave up just two earned runs. He improves to 10-1 on the season. He struck out nine FCC batters in the win.

Lansing tallied a total of 22 hits in the win as every starter for the Stars registered a hit.

FCC starting pitcher Danny Leo suffered the loss. He falls to 8-1 on the season. Leo tossed six innings on the day and scattered nine hits. He gave up five earned runs and struck out six batters.
