Cougars Stay Hot in Dominant Shutout Sweep Over Wolfpack
Frederick Community College baseball team delivered another impressive performance at home on Sunday, sweeping visiting Westmoreland County Community College Wolfpack in a dominant doubleheader. The Cougars improved to 23-3 overall and 13-1 in Region 20 Division II play after shutting out the Wolfpack in both games.
In Game 1, Frederick wasted no time setting the tone, jumping ahead early and steadily building their lead. The Cougars plated a run in the first before breaking the game open in the third with a three-run home run off the bat of William Gisriel. Joshua Erd added a two-run shot of his own in the fourth as Frederick cruised to a 9-0 victory. Erd led the offense with three hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored, while Gisriel drove in four. On the mound, Truitt Brinsfield, Evan Hassinger, and Dakota Smith combined to hold Westmoreland to just one hit, striking out ten and allowing six walks in the shutout.
Game 2, Jacob Seek earned the win after throwing four hitless innings, striking out four and working around six walks. Adam Horst and Tyler Haupt closed it out, giving up just one hit over the final three frames to complete the 7-0 shutout. Offensively, Frederick capitalized on Westmoreland's mistakes, putting up four runs in the third inning and adding insurance runs in the fourth and fifth. Jacob Downey drove in two, while Shawn Karpaitis added two RBIs of his own.
Frederick has now won four straight as they hit the road for their next contest, traveling to CCBC Catonsville on Saturday, March 29, for another doubleheader showdown starting at 12 PM.
