Lotoya played point guard for two years at FCC, under Hall of Fame basketball coach Jack Mehl. Her up- tempo style of play changed the nature of FCC basketball, according to

Coach Mehl. She was a solid player on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court and served as the focal point for the offense, causing problems for other teams trying to guard her.

Her team won the 1992 Maryland Junior College Conference Championship, FCC’s first women’s state championship.

Lotoya has remained active in the local community since her time at FCC. She has served as head coach for the Sertoma Team and Basketball Coaches Without Boundaries, both co-ed teams. She has also served as head coach for the High Octane AAU Team, College Bound Student Athletes AAU Team, West Frederick Middle School WFAA, and Ballenger Creek Middle School Team, all-female teams. She is a member of the Voices of Unity Choir and serves as co-director of the Jackson Youth Choir. She and her husband Larry are the parents of three talented athletes.

“FCC was an experience I will never forget,” Lotoya said. “To be a part of an awesome basketball program was such a blessing. My struggles became my strengths. I have so many memories that will stay with me for a lifetime.  Thanks to my support system for making it all happen, to Coach Mehl and to FCC Hall of Fame athletic supporter Sandy Smith for seeing something in me that I didn’t see in myself.  That’s what I will keep forever.”
