Cougars Battle but Fall to Unbeaten Mercer CCC
Frederick Community College Cougars faced a tough challenge in their home doubleheader against Mercer County Community College, dropping both games but showing resilience in the second contest. Mercer comes into the game on and 8-game win streak with zero loses on the season.
The opener saw FCC struggle offensively, as they managed just four hits in a five-inning 12-0 defeat. Mercer County jumped ahead early with a five-run first inning and continued to capitalize on errors and timely hitting. Despite solid at-bats from Raegan Miller and Hailey Zimmerman, the Cougars couldn't break through against Mercer's dominant pitching.
The second game brought more offensive sparks for FCC, highlighted by a solo home run from Kyleigh Hull in the third inning that ignited the dugout. Leo Cline and Brooke Renninger delivered clutch two-run doubles, keeping the Cougars within striking distance. However, Mercer continued to apply pressure, capitalizing on Frederick's defensive miscues to pull away late. Despite the 15-6 loss, the Cougars showed fight, with their bats waking up and producing key runs.
FCC now sits at 1-12 on the season and will look to regroup as they return to action at home on Tuesday, March 18, for a doubleheader against Jefferson Community College.
