Ron held positions at Frederick Community College from the Fall of 1972 through the Spring of 1994, including serving as a Professor of Economics, Division Chair of Social Sciences, and Acting Chief Academic Officer. He served as assistant soccer coach in the Fall of 1972, head baseball coach from 1973-80, and Head Men’s Golf Coach from 1982-1994.

During his tenure with the baseball team, Ron initiated the first southern trip to Eastern Virginia and North Carolina, and hosted regional tournaments held at McCurdy Field. His teams qualified for several regional tournaments.  He also initiated the first southern golf trips, to Myrtle Beach, SC and then to Pinehurst,

NC. Under his direction, the team won four regional titles and participated in four national tournaments (1987, 1988, 1991 and 1994). The team finished sixth in the nation in 1988. One to three individuals qualified for the national tournament in each of the eight remaining years. He was honored four times as Region XX Golf Coach of the Year (1987, 1988, 1991 and 1994).

After leaving FCC, he served as Chief Academic Officer of Laramie County Community College (1994-1998); President of Minnesota West Community and Technical College (1998-2008) (Retired); Interim President of Southwest Minnesota State University (2011-2013); Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach, Minnesota West CTC (2005-2011); Head Boy’s and Girl’s Golf Coach, Worthington High School (2008-2013); and served on the Worthington City Council from 2006-2014.

“Frederick Community College was home to me for 22 years,” Ron said “As I reflect back on over 40 years in higher education, I realize that my time as an FCC Cougar afforded me the experiences that I have used repeatedly at three other higher education institutions. Athletics have been a major theme in my life, whether a player, coach, or administrator. At FCC, we forged a solid core of individuals who believed in athletics as part of the development process of providing leadership and team building within the student environment. As a relatively-new institution in 1972 when I came to the College, it was an adventure to watch the growth of sports at FCC over my 22 years. The growth was not only institutional in nature but also in terms of student body. Each year brought change in student and institutional requirements. I felt honored to be a part of this period. But more importantly was the gift given to me to work with students of all ages and backgrounds as they lived out a small part of their athletic dream. The student athletes gave more to me than I could have ever given to them in terms of my own personal growth.”
