Cougars Mount Comeback to Dominate Shenandoah
The Frederick Community College Cougars baseball team continued its impressive run this season, improving to 34-6 overall after sweeping a doubleheader against Shenandoah University on Thursday afternoon in Frederick.
In Game 1, the Cougars exploded for 13 runs on nine hits, overwhelming Shenandoah in just five innings. After falling behind early, Frederick responded quickly and often, scoring in four straight innings. Shawn Karpaitis led the charge at the plate, finishing with four RBIs, including a two-run double and a two-run triple. William Gisriel also had a strong showing with two hits and two RBIs, while Jacob Downey and Hunter Lee added key RBIs. Truitt Brinsfield earned the win on the mound, striking out five over four innings of work. The Cougars' bats were relentless, highlighted by a five-run fifth inning that sealed the 13-3 run-rule victory.
Game 2 was more of a battle, but the Cougars came through with timely hitting and clutch pitching. After falling behind 3-0 early, Frederick rallied in the third inning with a string of hits, including a two-run home run from Karpaitis and a solo shot from Cooper Harris. Shenandoah briefly reclaimed the lead in the fifth, capitalizing on wild pitches to go ahead 5-4. But the Cougars responded immediately in the sixth with a three-run surge, sparked by a two-run double from Luis Perez Alfaro and a sacrifice fly by Cole Swinimer to regain the lead 7-5. Karpaitis took the mound in the final two innings to shut the door, striking out three and earning the win in relief.
The Cougars now look ahead to another key Region 20 doubleheader on the road this Saturday, April 19, when they face Montgomery College. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
