Cougars Fall to Cecil Seahawks 79-59
The FCC Cougars men's basketball team faced a challenging road test against a strong Cecil College squad on Wednesday evening, falling 79-59.
The Cougars started the game with energy, keeping pace with Cecil through much of the first half. Sophomore guard Aiden Igwebe led the Cougars offensively, finishing with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including two three-pointers. Al-Ameen Sanni added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Mike Davis efficiently shot 6-of-7 from the floor for 13 points and pulled down six boards in just 22 minutes.
Despite these standout performances, the Cougars could not contain Cecil's relentless offensive attack. Frederick struggled beyond the arc, shooting just 25% (4-of-16) from three-point range.
Defensive lapses and turnovers also hurt the Cougars. Cecil's 13 steals and Frederick's 39 turnovers paved the way for transition opportunities that the Seahawks exploited, especially in the second half. Frederick trailed by seven points at halftime but could not close the gap as Cecil outscored them 38-25 after the break.
The defeat moved the Cougars' record to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in Region 20 Division 2 contests as they continue to fight. Looking ahead, Frederick has a chance to bounce back and regain momentum as they hit the road to face the Prince George's Community College Owls on December 13 at 7 PM.
