Cougars Men’s Soccer Finished the Season as Runner-Up for the Region 20 Div II Championship

Cougars Men’s Soccer Finished the Season as Runner-Up for the Region 20 Div II Championship

The FCC Cougars men's soccer team had a strong run throughout the 2022 season but fell to the top-ranked CCBC Essex Knights 5-1 in the final at CCBC Dundalk and finished as the runner-up for the Region 20 Div II Men's Soccer Championship.

The Cougars entered the tournament as the second seed and would face the third seed WVU Potomac State College Catamounts. In their previous meeting, the Cougars trounced the Catamounts 6-1 back on October 6. However, that wouldn't be the case in postseason play. After a back and forth scoreless first half, the Cougars would be first to get on the board in the 69th minute as David Diaz Guzman would find Jackson Kincaid-Osborn, and he would beat the goalie for the first of his two goals. Less than two minutes later, Kincaid-Osborn would take a shot and find the back of the net again to give Frederick a two-goal lead. However, Pot State would answer back with two goals before the end of regulation to force overtime.

Six minutes into overtime, Feyi Osifeso would find the ball at his feet after a blocked shot and bury the second effort to win the match and advance to the championship game.

The Cougars would face the CCBC Essex Knights in the Region 20 Final, where they would fall 5-1. Frederick would fight until the end but would fall short of the championship. Damonte Whitlow made nine saves for the Cougars, and Feyi Osifeso would score the only goal for Frederick in the 52nd minute. Jackson Kincaid-Osborn, Robert Watson, and David Diaz-Guzman were named to the DII Men's Soccer All-Tournament Team.

Frederick's Joel Jamieson led the team in scoring with nine goals this season, and David Diaz Guzman led the team in assists with 12 and in points with 28.

As voted on by regional head coaches, five Cougars were selected to the DII Soccer NJCAA All-Region 20 Team. First Team: David Diaz Guzman and Erick Ochieng. Second Team: Joel Jamieson and Jackson Kincaid-Osborn. Honorable Mention: Emir Vasquez

The 2022 Cougars men's soccer team had an excellent season. The team finished 12-5 overall and 8-3 in the MDJUCO with notable wins against Hagerstown Community College on September 8, 4-0, and Potomac State College on September October 6, 6-1.
