Cougars Close Regular Season with Split Against Harford, Eye Region Tournament
Frederick Community College Cougars softball wrapped up its regular season with a home doubleheader against Harford Community College on Wednesday evening, earning a split dramatically. The Cougars fell in extra innings in Game one, 9-5, before bouncing back in a convincing Game 2 win, 7-2, to finish the regular season at 11-21 overall and 10-8 in Region 20 Division II play.
Game 1 was a tightly contested battle until Harford broke things open in the eighth inning with a six-run surge, leading to a 9-5 defeat for the Cougars. Despite trailing for most of the game, Frederick fought hard through the late innings. A two-run rally in the sixth, followed by a game-tying RBI triple by Kyleigh Hull in the seventh. Raegan Miller delivered a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth to keep hope alive, but Harford's offense proved too strong in the extra frame. Hailey Justice went 7.2 innings in the circle, striking out four, while contributing two RBIs at the plate for FCC.
Frederick responded purposefully in Game 2, exploding for seven runs in the first three innings and cruising to a 7-2 win. Joelle Staub and Leo Cline each drove in two runs, with Cline going 3-for-4 and ripping an RBI double in the second. Brooke Renninger also had a standout performance with two hits, including a run-scoring double in the third. Alondra Sidock was dominant in the circle, scattering eight hits over a complete-game effort and picking up her fifth win of the season.
With the regular season complete, the Cougars currently sit in fourth place in the Region 20 Division II standings. If standings hold, FCC will host a first-round playoff game in the Region 20 Championship Tournament. Game date, time, and opponent are still to be determined.
