Cougars Blanked Virginia Peninsula CC in Home Opener 4-0
The Frederick Community College Cougars Men's Soccer Team kicked off the 2024 season with a commanding 4-0 victory over the Virginia Peninsula Community College Gators, marking their eighth consecutive opening-day win.
Freshman Erick Lopez started the scoring in the 32nd minute, capitalizing on a scramble in the box after a corner kick. The second half saw additional goals from freshmen Omar AlBarbarawi (61' and 77') and Omar Aguilar (72'). Freshmen Rashid Alshrouki, Jason Jutila, and sophomore Alexandro Angulo Moreno assisted in these goals.
Sophomore goalkeeper Eric Simonson earned his first shutout of the season with five saves, including a crucial penalty kick.
The Cougars' next match is against Region 20 DII opponent and nationally ranked CCBC Essex on Tuesday, August 27 at 4:30 pm.
