FCC Athletic Hall of Famer selected as Women's Basketball Head Coach
On July 29, 2024, Rodney Bennett, Director of Athletics, announced that Lynn D. Ramage was hired as the Head Coach of the Frederick Community College Women's Basketball Team for the 2024-25 season.
Ramage, a 1992 graduate of West Liberty University, has more than 40 years of coaching experience at the high school, junior college, and NCAA Division I, II, and III levels, and brings a wealth of experience and a passion for basketball to Frederick Community College.
Most notably, Ramage served as interim head coach for East Stroudsburg University's women's basketball program and received the PSAC East Coach of the Year in 1998.
Ramage also boasts over a decade of NCAA collegiate men's and women's basketball head coaching experience, including stints at Morgan State University, East Stroudsburg University, Connecticut College, Greensboro College, and Emerson College, where he was named interim head coach.
"I am very excited to bring back an FCC alumni and FCC Athletic Hall of Famer with an extensive coaching career to lead our women's basketball program into the future," said Rodney Bennett, Director of Athletics. "I am thrilled about his passion for basketball, his work ethic, and his commitment and dedication to student-athlete development both on and off the court, which aligns perfectly with our college's values."
Lynn was among eight inductees who were enshrined in the honorable FCC Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2015.
A native of Lynchburg, Va. where he attended E.C. Glass High School, Ramage served in the U.S. Air Force for four years before attending Frederick Community College where he played basketball for two years and was an honorable mention All-America selection. He competed in basketball and track and field at West Liberty and was the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion in the triple jump in 1984.
"It's great to be back where I got my collegiate start; I consider Frederick my home, as I still have friends and family in the area who treated me like a son," said Coach Ramage. "We're going to hit the ground running with my focus on local players wanting a chance to continue their careers. Age won't matter. I started at FCC right out of the military."
Prior to taking over the helm of the FCC Cougars women's basketball program, Lynn Ramage coached the girls' team at Sequoia Pathfinder Academy at Verrado and won the state championship in the Canyon Athletic Association Division II in Phoenix, AZ, for the 2023-24 season.
His coaching philosophy emphasizes not only competitive success but also the holistic development of student-athletes as role models in the classroom and leaders in their community. "I'm looking forward to creating a culture of consistency and being able to build upon it year after year," Coach Ramage said about building the culture of the program.
His community work includes Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Rotary Club, the Boys to Men mentoring program in Baltimore, the Special Olympics, and the United Way.
