Game 1
Mercyhurst North East

FREDERICK, Md. – Famous Chicago Cubs announcer Harry Carey used to say, so often, "You can't beat fun at the old ballpark." On a chilly and soggy Sunday afternoon, fans were in for a treat for some nail-biting extra-innings contests. Both games ended in the bottom of the eighth, in dramatic fashion, with game-winning hits by FCC's Josh Greenberg and Vince Altopiedi against Mercyhurst North East. With the sweep, the No. 20 Frederick Community College baseball team improves to 3-0 on the season.
GAME 1
FCC 3 Saints 2 (8 innings)
FCC starting pitcher Nick Pantos had a solid outing going five innings while giving up just 3 hits and one earned run. He would hand the ball over to Antonio Bianchini in relief and AB was 'lights outs.' The southpaw tossed three innings and gave up just one hit, fanning three batters. Bianchini picked up the win and improves to 1-0 on the season.
In the bottom of the eighth, FCC recorded back-to-back singles with no outs. However, a failed attempt to get the runners over, followed by another out, set the stage for FCC left fielder Josh Greenberg. Greenberg would rise to the occasion by ripping a liner to the gap, knocking in Brady Harju for the walk-off victory.
FCC would muster up just five hits in the victory. Hayden Kissel went 2-for-3 and Thomas Gonzalez showed discipline at the plate drawing three free passes.
GAME 2
FCC 4 Saints 3 (8 innings)
FCC would jump on the board early by plating two runs with consecutive hits by Jared Pine, Jonathan Sanchez and Eric Naylor. The Saints would answer back by scoring three runs in the top of the second. The Cougars would tie it up at three in the bottom of the second.
FCC starting pitcher Keagan McGinnis battled on the mound and went five innings. He struck out five batters and left the game with a no-decision. James Beasley would come in relief and earned the victory. Beasley fanned four batters and gave up a pair of hits.
Not only was this a nailbiter, but also, both teams were battling darkness. Heading into the bottom of the eighth, it was either score to earn the victory, or the game would be called due to darkness. After two FCC runners reached base, the Saints made a pitching change. Brady Harju was intentionally walked to load the bases. Vince Altopiedi would step into the batters box with the winning run on third base. Altopiedi smoked the first pitch he saw right up the middle for the game-winning hit.
The top of the order came up big for FCC in the victory. Jared Pine, Jonathan Sanchez, and Eric Naylor each had a pair of hits.
ON DECK
FCC will return to the diamond on Wednesday (2/28) when they travel to Shenandoah University JV for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2:00 P.M.
