Baseball: Austin & Hanafin lead home run barrage in rout of ACM
CUMBERLAND, MD - Growing up a Chicago Cubs fan, I was fortunate to watch a lot of baseball on WGN TV and listen to one of the best broadcasters of all-time, the one and only Harry Caray. He was famous for his one-liners in the booth. A favorite of his was, "It could be, it might be... It is, A home run!" Harry would've made that call five times today if he was in the booth for the Cougars as the FCC baseball team hit five homers as they defeated Allegany College of Maryland by the score of 9-5.
The FCC offense came out swinging the bats on a beautiful day for some baseball. Connor Hanafin and Brandon Austin each hit two bombs. Mitch Long lived up to his name and hit a long ball over the fence. Hanafin and Austin each drove in three runs. BA would finish with a total of three hits on the day. The Cougar offense pounded out 13 hits as they continue to rip the cover off the baseball. Hayden Kissel joined the hit parade and tallied three hits in the win, including a double.
FCC southpaw Brad Foster (W, 8-2) picked up the win. The crafty lefty pitched six innings and only gave up a pair of hits. He recorded six punchouts in the outing.
FCC will get a couple of days off and return to diamond on Saturday at home to face the Gators of Thomas Nelson CC. Prior to first pitch, FCC will recognize eight outstanding sophomores for the contributions and dedication to FCC baseball. First pitch is slated for 1:00 P.M.
