Going, Going, Gone! Cougars Sweep Red Hawks

Written By: Gary Demski & Story Contribution from Gamechanger

Game 1

Davenport, FL - No. 12 Frederick Community College (3-1 overall) snagged a late lead and defeated Lake Michigan College (3-6 overall) by the score of 7-6 on Sunday afternoon. The game was all tied up at six with the Cougars batting in the top of the seventh when Nicco German hit a solo dinger that turned out to be the difference in the game.

FCC got on the board in the first inning when Brodey Neveker tripled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Lake Michigan College evened things up at six in the bottom of the fifth inning on a 3-run homer.

John Cummings started on the mound for FCC. Cummings surrendered one run on three hits over two innings, walking one. Adam Watkins recorded the final six out to pick up his first win of the season on the mound.

FCC hit two long balls that went over the fence in the win. German put one out in the seventh inning and Justin Acal tattooed his first deep fly of the year in the top of the fifth.

FCC tallied seven hits in the game. Neveker, German, and Acal each managed multiple hits to lead the Cougar offense.

Game 2

Have a day Nicco German! Rewind back to the first game, German hits the go-ahead homer in the top of the 7th to outlast the Red Hawks. In his second at-bat in game two, he dials up a grand salami and that was all she wrote! FCC ripped the cover off the baseball in game two in a 15-4 rout over LMC.

FCC pulled away for good and never looked back with 13 runs in the second inning. In the second Wilson drew a walk, scoring one run, German homered on a 1-0 count, scoring four runs, Aidan Masters doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs, David Antone smoked his first homer of the season on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring three runs. Teammates Justin Acal doubled on the first pitch of the at-bat, plating one run, and Brodey Neveker doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.

Dakota Smith toed the rubber for FCC. The righthander went two innings, allowing two runs on one hit and striking out two. Nate Farmer would come out of the bullpen for one inning and Brendan Long (1-0) tossed two innings in the shortened contest and gets credit for the win.

The Cougars collected 12 hits as they came out swinging in the contest. Acal, Antone, Neveker, German, and Masters each managed multiple hits for FCC. Justin Acal is seeing the ball really well as he was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish.

On Deck

FCC (3-1 overall) will enjoy a day off on Monday and return to the diamond on Tuesday (3/1) as they take on WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY JV. The first pitch is slated for 6:30 PM.
