Cougars Use Long Ball To Defeat Hawks; Cummings Dominates On The Hill
LaPlata, Md. - What a start for the 2022 FCC baseball team! The #9 Cougars (18-1 Overall, 9-0 MDJUCO) were victorious over the College Of Southern Maryland (13-10) by the score of 8-3 to make it 17 in a row for FCC. Safe to say one of the best starts in school history!
The Cougars fired up the offense in the first inning and wasted little time when Nicco German singled on a 2-1 count, plating one run.
FCC lit up the scoreboard for six runs in the seventh inning as the Cougars ripped the cover off the baseball. Justin Acal, Brodey Neveker, and Wyatt Miles all connected on deep drives that sailed over the fence.
John Cummings was on the mound for Frederick Community College. The crafty right-hander lasted five innings, allowing just two hits as he picked up the win and remains perfect with a 3-0 record on the hill. Jared Hurlburt came out of the pen to record the final six outs of the game as he picked up his third save on the season. Side note...Chris Baker (2011) holds the FCC record for most saves in a season with seven.
The FCC offense erupted for 14 hits in the win. Joshua Wilson, German, Acal, Aidan Masters, Miles, and Brendan Long all collected multiple hits. Along with his big fly, Acal raced around the bases and added a triple to his stat line. Acal, Neveker, and German all showed that they are great teammates as they each knocked in a pair of runs!
