Cougars Show Grit In Victories Over Hawks
HAGERSTOWN, MD. – It was a quick turnaround for the FCC baseball team on Saturday afternoon after returning from a long trip for Garrett College on Friday night. The Cougars hit the diamond on the road at noon versus the Hawks from Hagerstown Community College. FCC would take a pair from the Hawks in two tightly contested games. FCC took game one by the count of 4-2, and came from behind to take the nightcap by the count of 4-3.
Game 1
Game ball goes to Brendan Long. Mr. Utility Brendan Long came out of the bullpen to pick up his second win of the season. The crafty lefty gave up just two hits and recorded five punchouts. FCC starter Riley Grant had another quality outing, pitching three innings and fanning six batters.
Aidan Greaney led FCC with two hits on offense. Teammates Demetri Jamison, David Antone found the gap and each recorded a two-bagger.
Game 2
The Cougars were down to their remaining three outs in the top of the 7th with the meat of the order coming up trailing 3-2. Just like they have done all season, the studs came through for FCC. Justin Acal led the inning off with a double, and teammate Brodey Nevker would follow up with a double of his own scoring Acal. With the score tied at 3-3, Aidan Greaney singled to left field, but Neveker had to hold up at second base. Josh Wilson would come to the plate and hit a deep fly ball to right field, allowing Neveker to tag up and advance to third. It was then Neveker scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball.
Jared Hurlburt picked up the win out of the bullpen tossing the two final innings. The hard-throwing righty gave up just one hit and fanned three batters. Credit Adam Watkins and Bryce Greene who each pitched one inning in middle relief.
Brodey Neveker and Aidan Greaney each had two hits. Greaney absolutely crushed his fourth homer of the year. He has been on fire since being inserted into the lineup. Greaney is hitting .412 on the year. For Neveker, he has now hit safely in 13 straight games. Demetri Jamison has hit safely in his last 10. DJ is batting .351 and doing a solid job in the leadoff spot and playing nice defense roaming the outfield.
