No. 5 Cougars Finish Halted Game With 8-3 Victory Over Hawks

LaPlata, MD. -  The No. 5 Frederick Community College Cougars hit the road to take on the Hawks from College of Southern Maryland to complete a halted game from 29 days ago. The contest, which began back on March 26th, was suspended due to unplayable field conditions resulting from lingering rain on that date with FCC leading by the score of 1-0 in the bottom of the first. The Cougars finished the game today and won by the score of 8-3. With the win, FCC improves to 35-5 (20-4 MD JUCO) on the year! With the victory, FCC secures at least the two-seed in the Region 20 D2 postseason tournament.

In today's action, FCC second baseman Aidan Masters delivered in the clutch in the second frame. He connected for a double in the gap allowing teammates Josh Wilson and Aidan Greaney to score, putting FCC up 3-2 after two complete innings. The Cougars would push another run across in the fourth inning as Brendan Long singled, scoring Justin Acal to make it a 2-run lead by the count of 4-2. The Cougars would plate two more runs in the sixth inning on RBI singles from Nicco German and Spencer Rhoads to give FCC a 6-3 advantage after six innings. FCC would plate two more runs in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

The Cougars slugged 12 hits in the win. Aidan Masters led the offense with three hits in five trips to the plate. Two of his three hits were doubles. Teammates Justin Acal and Nicco German each registered a pair of hits. Brendan Long went 1-for-2 and knocked in two runs.

Riley Grant began today's contest on the hill for FCC and picks up the win. Grant is a perfect 3-0 on the season and has been sharp since his return. Grant tossed 5.2 innings while striking out six batters in the win. He gave up just four hits and two earned runs. Jared Hurlburt came out of the bullpen to record the final three outs of the game. Hurlburt struck out the side to shut the door and preserve the win.
