Cougars Dominate Hawks at Home in Saturday Sweep
Frederick Community College Cougars continued its dominant season with a commanding sweep of College of Southern Maryland, securing two decisive victories on their home field. The Cougars, now 18-2 overall and 8-0 in Region 20 DII play, showcased their offensive firepower and pitching depth as they cruised to 10-2 and 11-1 wins.
In Game 1, Frederick wasted little time taking control, erupting for seven runs in the third inning. Luis Perez Alfaro led the charge, driving in four runs with a home run and a double, while Hunter Lee added three RBIs of his own. Truitt Brinsfield was solid on the mound, limiting Southern Maryland to just two runs on three hits over six innings. The Cougars tacked on another run in the fifth and never looked back, sealing a convincing 10-2 victory.
Game 2 saw more of the same as Frederick's offense caught fire in the third inning with a seven-run outburst. Michael Hafer sparked the rally with a two-run single, while Andrew Varga doubled in two more to break the game wide open. The Cougars added insurance runs in the fourth and sixth, with Nick Miller and Hafer continuing to drive in runs. On the mound, Evan Hassinger was in complete control, tossing four scoreless innings before handing the ball to Tyler Haupt, who closed out the win. The Cougars played a clean defensive game, committing no errors while pounding out 11 hits in the 11-1 victory.
With the sweep, Frederick strengthens its position atop the Region 20 DII standings and looks to keep the momentum rolling by quickly turning around to play a Sunday single-nine-inning game against Erie Community College on March 16. The first pitch is set for 11 AM.
